Framed Canvas: Spring on the Back Road by Elisabeth Porter Elisabeth Porter I was fortunate to have been raised in Las Cruces, New Mexico with diverse cultures, stunning landscapes and amazing quality of light. Although I didn’t receive formal art education, my love of beauty has inspired me to look at art and to create photo diaries of my world travels. For the past 27 years, I’ve lived in London dealing in antique Chinese export porcelain and in 2001, I realized my life’s dream by designing and building a home in Santa Fe. In 2006, I took my first workshop in Taos with plein air painter, Leigh Gusterson whose vibrant landscapes had a deep impact on me. Because of work, I rarely paint in London, but try to paint more every year in the autumn in New Mexico, where I am continually inspired. A Passion for beauty and an intense curiosity are my greatest blessings and painting is my gift to myself. I paint for the process, for the time to be in nature, observing deeply and forgetting time. In my paintings, I try to achieve harmony of movement, rhythm and color while sharing the passion I feel for New Mexico.
